How to Make a Pine Cone Star

Pine cones can be found all over during fall and winter, making them perfect for DIY crafts. One of the most popular things to make out of pine cones is a decorative star. In this tutorial, we'll show you how to make your own pine cone star in just a few easy steps.

What You'll Need

To create a pine cone star, you'll need the following materials:

  • Pine cones (at least 8)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Craft wire
  • Scissors
  • Twine or ribbon

Step 1: Prepare Your Pine Cones

The first thing you'll need to do is prepare your pine cones. Start by collecting at least 8 pine cones that are roughly the same size. If you can't find enough pine cones in nature to make your star, you can purchase them from a craft store.

Once you have your pine cones, you'll need to clean them. Use a brush or compressed air to remove any dirt, debris, or bugs that may be inside the cones.

Step 2: Create the Points

Take one pine cone and apply hot glue to the base of each scale. Then, press the scale onto another pine cone so that their bases meet at a 90-degree angle.

Continue doing this with each of the remaining pine cones until you have created a star shape. Make sure the points of the star are evenly spaced apart and that they form a circular shape when viewed from above.

Step 3: Secure the Points

Once you have your star shape, you'll need to secure the points together. Cut a piece of craft wire about 12 inches long and wrap it around each point of the star, twisting the ends of the wire together to hold everything in place.

Repeat this process for each point of the star, making sure everything is held securely together.

Step 4: Add a Hanger

Now that your pine cone star is complete, you can add a hanger so that you can display it. Cut a piece of twine or ribbon and tie a knot at one end. Then, thread the other end through the topmost point of the star and tie another knot to secure it in place.

Your pine cone star is now complete and ready to be displayed!
